I think that everytime a DooM game ends with doomguy defeating the final boss, hell ends and because hell ends, a strong argent portal appears (because argent comes from hell and these two things are associated) and doomguy enters another universe to save. When Samuel Hayden left (probably to another universe) - it seems like he left to another universe because he left with the argent sword which was the last thing from hell and with that, the game ends. Then doomguy gets teleported to the same universe as samuel Hayden, perhaps because of the fact that the sword leaving in the exact same moment as hayden created a portal to the same dimension, as i explaines before - last source of argent leaves - hell ends - portal appears. The next universe is Doom Eternal and as we can see the armor is similar. That is probably the universe or Doom 1 and Doom 2 because later his old helmet is shown and its said that he fought with it. Later a part of samuel is shown which means that he probably didnt survive the portal trip. But then there is a problem cuz i only played doom 2016, some doom 1 and watched doom yt videos, idk if the helmet is shown because they (the sentinels) identified doomguys face or because he didnt travel through universes when doom 1 or 2 or 3 ended and stayed and the sentinels gave him his 2016 armor or some other and then as he defeated the boss in doom 2 or doom 3 there are two possibilities, he was sealed - and then woke up in doom 2016.

Heres proof that doomguy from doom 2016 might be the original doomguy from the first doom games - when you unlock the bfg in doom 2016 it shows an advancement or something i dont remember called "old friend" but it might mean an "old friend" for the player not doomguy but idk
